Apartment was absolutely fantastic in an extraordinary neighbourhood. Even better, the street of Bairro Alto it is located on is fairly calm, meaning you’re close to the action but there is very little noise at night. Joao, the owner, is the most gracious person you ever meet. He has tons of documentation handy and arranged a big map of the neighbourhood in the living room with points of interest marked very clearly. We took a picture of it on the iPhone and used that to navigate. He was also most helpful with suggestions and even guided us to where we were going the first night. A most charming host! You’ll love it.

    Wonderful Stay

Our family of four (couple & sons in their 20′s) thoroughly enjoyed our week here. The apartment has many nice features and the location was perfect for enjoying Lisbon. Though on a side street that tended to be very quiet, we were just around the corner from the activity of Bairro Alto & Chiado, as well as the beautiful Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara, where we went to take in the panoramic view of Lisbon as the sun set each day. We were able to check in early, and the owner graciously welcomed us with information about the history of the apartment as well as suggestions for restaurants, sightseeing and markets. A friendly staff member who lives in the building occasionally checked to see if we had questions or needed anything. The owners have provided “extras” that we have not found in other European apartments we’ve rented – lots of big, fluffy towels, attractive décor & accessories, lots of comfortable seating, air conditioning, maps & tourist information. And all of this is in a very “typical” residential neighborhood that provided an authentic feel of Lisbon. Some may want to know that one of the bedrooms is partly separated from the living area and hall with curtains rather than a full wall, but that was not a big problem. We would choose this apartment again.

My family and I stayed here just before Christmas 2010. I would stay here any time I was in Lisboa. The apartment is beautiful! It is well appointed and has a full kitchen (washer/dryer and dishwasher even). You can’t stay in a better area of town. The owner is very nice and helpful. I feel like we were treated like part of the family. I highly recommend this place and look forward to staying there again in the future!

    Muito Obrigado

Family Break in Lisbon – Bairro Alto – 30 Mar 11

Review Submitted: April 5, 2011 Date of Stay: March 2011
We travelled with 2 older teenage daughters for a short family break on 30 March. The appartment is very quaint, quirky and beautiful and was fine for a family of 4. Its situation is really central and easy to get around, and there are no shortages of trams, buses etc., or the vernicular nearby.

We were welcomed on arrival by Joao who kindly gave us a tour, helped with any questions and made suggestions of places to see etc., over a welcoming glass of port.

So fully recommended – excellent! and thanks very much to Madalena & Joao!

We stayed in this lovely apartment for 3 nights at Easter and what a great find, a wonderful base for our stay in Lisbon. From the time I contacted Madalena the owner re booking this apartment she was most helpful and all of her emails were prompt and full of information and that was one of the reasons we decided to stay here. The apartment is spotless and very well equipped. It is very rustic and so well decorated that makes it original and characteristic and very different and unique. There is a nice little balconettes & we enjoyed seeing the neighbours on theirs hanging out their laundry and talking with each other. Mostly older women, they were friendly, would smile and greet us from across the street. A lovely welcome gesture was there on arrival which was very well appreciated and enjoyed. A very well laid out apartment in a quiet area and so homely but most of all very central to all the amenities. Just a stone’s throw from the lively Bairro Alto that comes alive at night time, doors open, tables & chairs are put out on the street and the atmosphere changes a wonderful experience. We were greeted at the apartment by João a very helpful and friendly greeter and he gave us loads of local information and even told us where to go for lunch. There is very little more that I can add to all the wonderful reviews that have already been submitted. We look forward to a return visit to this apartment in 2012 but it will be for longer as there is so much to see and do in this lovely city. We would highly recommend this apartment to everyone.
